2017 Check-In

Has it really been 3 years since my last post?! I've really got to do a better job at this blogging life. Let's see, my last travels took me to South Africa in 2014 so lets see if I can recall my travels since that time. 2015- Only the Bahamas, again. Great cruise, but not a very luxurious year of traveling. 2016- The majestic and very French island of Martinique. This group friend trip was marvelous and although officially in the Caribbean, Martinique was very different from what I'd ever experienced before.  The island is luscious and full of beautiful greenery. No one speaks English, not the bartender, not the taxi drivers, and not the hotel front desk, so bring a French speaker in order to go far. The resort where we stayed was a bit off the beaten path, but gorgeous. We toured the island with Carambole Tours, and the guide/owner was FANTASTIC. I highly recommend her. Last year I also went to Chicago for the first time. I'd never been before, and the same gr...

2014...what a year!

First I'd like to say that it has been far too long since I've posted to this blog. I guess that's what happens when you're busy living life instead of just writing about it. I would like to say that this year took me beyond what I thought was possible. I did the normal trips to Orlando early on in the year to see family. Had a fun weekend getaway in Las Vegas. I also went to Long Island, NY this summer to see my cousin get married in the most beautiful affair. Lastly, I ventured to the west coast, to my beloved California, and spent some time in San Diego. But wait! That is not all. I had the pleasure and shear humbling joy of an opportunity to go to Dubai, U.A.E. and CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA!!! Yes, me. Little ole me went half way around the world to places that I'd only dreamed of visiting. I was able to participate in a desert safari, and view the sky scrapers of Dubai. I was able to stay at a resort right on the water in Cape Town, party on Long Street, and en...

2013...New Year, New Travels

It's been awhile hasnt it. So much has happened since my last blog. I almost abandoned it altogether, but alas, the writing gods directed me differently, so here I go... My travels since August 2012 include: Houston Orlando Savannah Orlando (again) Dallas Houston (again) Upcoming travel: Raleigh (March 2013) Los Angeles (March 2013) Punta Cana, D.R. (April 2013) This year a renewed sense of purpose to my travel has occured. I want to go to places I've never been, and to places where I do not know a soul living there. Stretching my travel arms in this way will allow me to find out who I am as a person, and to be more social and adventurous. There are some major US cities that I have not ventured to yet, so my bucket-list of new cities that will be accomplished this year include: Boston Austin San Francisco Seattle The drives that I hope to take in the next few months, into 2014 include the Pacific Coast Highway (LA to San Fran) and Route 66. This blog tu...

Up-and-coming...

It has been a few months since my last blog on travels, mostly because I've only been to Orlando (quasi-hometown) and NY for a 36 hour turn-around visit. HOWEVER :-) In February I am traveling to Miami and in March I'm headed to TRINIDAD!!! So all of this to say, stay tuned...I'm traveling again, and you're going to love where I'm headed.

Wedding Season

Wedding season for most people usually falls between April and June. For me and my friends/family/colleagues, it usually falls between Sept and December. One of my nearest and dearest friends was married on 10.10.10 in Philadelphia, PA (truthfully it actually took place in South New Jersey). I was very honored to be one of her many bridesmaids, 12 to be exact. The wedding was beautiful and reception was one of the best I've been to. South Jersey/Philly in October is gorgeous! The leaves were changing so there was enough orange, red and yellow mixed in with the year-round green to leave you in awe of natures turn of seasons. The area that the wedding was located in was smack-dab in the heart of the "American Dream" neighborhood. Huge rustic homes, with porches that spanned around the entire building, picket fences and lawn decorations (because of Halloween coming up). I immediately fell in love with the area, and had a momentary lapse of "I could raise my kids here,...

Caribbean Carnivals 2010

This year, in the midst of a recession, I did not budget for any travel. I fully expected to be in the DC-Maryland-Virginia metro area for the entire year. However, a Memorial Day trip home to visit my family in Orlando started a domino effect that I am hard pressed to stop. I forgot, entirely, that Caribbean carnival in Orlando was on Memorial Day weekend, and I found  myself, my mom, my 4 year old nephew and my 9 month old neice jumping and dancing and waving! It was so much fun. My neice was dancing in the streets and marveling at the colorful costumes, while my nephew was begging to jump on the trucks and floats. After that experience, I couldnt wait to go to my first ever DC carnival the following month. The experience was a tad bit different. I went with friends, and it was just about 100 degrees and humid with not even a hint of a breeze. One friend ended up passing out and had to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. Most of the trucks were African, which was very n...

Summer in DC

I realize at this point, that I haven't blogged in over 6 months. This is highly unacceptable in the blog world, however I think my excuses are valid. Let's review them and decipher for ourselves: 1.) DC/MD is COLD in the winter. No travel, little to no events. Just indoors, tv and movies. 2.) When Spring 2010 hit, heading outdoors was #1 on the list. Not blogging, emailing, facebooking or IMing. I needed to be OUTSIDE. 3.) Personal life: my relationships with people took over my life, and personal writing goals. Working to manage them more equally. Now that my excuses for NOT blogging are out, I should follow-up with some fascinating events/vacations/ or stories to blog about. Lets see, the new places that I've discovered are: Bar 7: Downtown DC, across from the convention center, and around the corner from Lux Lounge. Happy Hour in the summer from 5-7pm open bar. You cant beat that. Saturday nights are a bit roudy, and the general "club crowd" which I...
