Orlando...with a little London
I spent the last week in my psuedo-hometown of Orlando, Florida to welcome to the world my first niece, London Simone. I first have to say that my niece was born in the beautiful Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women and Babies which is something like the W hotel. After you valet park your car for an unheard of $5 you walk into the sliding doors into a waterfall section where water cascades overhead and on the sides of you. You then walk to the welcome desk where you check-in, and get a colored sticker with your picture on it and the room that you are going to visit. (The colored sticker changes daily). When we got to my sister's floor of the hospital the rooms are in a circle, and the rooms are like private hotel rooms. There is a television with cable, and padded art above the bed. The windows are window seat to ceiling along the length of the room. Her view overlooked two ponds. Also the food (which my sister got for free and her husband was able to order for $5) was restaurant quality. None of that jello and oatmeal stuff that you think of at hospitals. There was grilled chicken, Caesar salads, baked salmon, grilled tilapia, and the best was the cheesecake!
Hospitals like Winnie Palmer makes you want to stay in the hospital for days on end. The highlight of course was seeing my beautiful niece. She could have been born in the car and it would have been an equally pleasant experience. I have to add that she was born on August 20th at 10:46a.m. and was 6lbs, 10oz.
Although most of my time was spent at the hospital and at my sister's beautiful Metrowest 3 bedroom apartment, I did get one opportunity to venture away. An old high-school friend and I went to a new place in Metrowest called Tavern on the Lake. The place is really nice. Much nicer than the places that I used to club back in 1999 in downtown Orlando. I went on the grown and sexy Monday night. The music was ok, the crowd was pretty nice but the place was put together great! There is an inside and outside bar. The outside space a.k.a. smoking patio, was very large and actually overlooked the lake stated in the name. The D.J. booth was positioned in VIP, which was a new look for me and the dancefloor had chain-link curtains which was different. I must have been tired from playing with my 3 year old nephew Chase all weekend so my energy level wasnt as high as I would have liked, but I agree that it was a well needed night out. All that was missing was my DJ Prostyle, DJ Nasty, Gregg-G and J-Love from back in the day Orlando.
When I go back for Thanksgiving I'm hoping to get a chance to see more of the new Downtown area, I hear that there's a very upscale movie theater there that is a must see. Stay tuned...
